I'm sure all of you have noticed how convenient it is to be able to have your fields saved in the title block when it is used in your personal projects. This is a very convenient aspect of the parametric quality of Revit. However, having to re-type all of your information every time you open a new chapter assignment shouldn't have to be necessary. This is a silly thing that shouldn't have to be changed after this class, but because of the way this book works it has become necessary. However, it does go into editing families, which could be helpful in the future. One of you asked how to make the template to where you don't have to do this anymore, so here is the result that we came up with:

After making a new sheet and choosing the template you've been using this semester, select the title block and go to edit family.

If you select the different text boxes in your template and look at their description in your properties menu, you will notice that the text that stays the same is actually called "text" and the ones that change every time you put it into a new project are called "label"

This can be fixed by deleting the label fields and replacing them with text ("create" tab, text). Make sure you make the text fields you are replacing the labels with the same size as the original label.

To make the text boxes look correct, you will need to make them the correct text size (in the properties menu), align them to the right or center (under the "Modify | Text Notes" tab). In the one shown below, the right of the text box should line up with the line to the right of the space for it.

Something else that you will need to change about specific fields is to change the text to italics. There are two ways to do this. You can either change it for each field individually in the "modify | text notes" tab, or in the properties menu, you can choose the "1/4" i" text size, and it will be in italics already when you start typing. For the fields turned on their side, you can just rotate the text box after you make it.

Once you have all of the text fields in place, save this title block as a new family. Save it somewhere you can find it, as it is the family you will now be loading into each assignment instead of the one you have been using. You will then load this into the project you were working on originally. Note that if you change your date to a text box, you will have to edit the family every time you put it into a new assignment. You can either save over your old file every week, or you will need to change this date for every exercise you open as a new file.

Hope this helps!
